The new bill signed by Florida Governor Charlie Crist exempts Developments of Regional Impact within three miles of the Port of Manatee's boundary. Projects in Florida which reach certain acreages can prompt a lengthy Development of Regional Impact review which includes local, regional, and state planning agencies. This bill will help advanced the port's future in containerized shipping, attract new businesses, and help generate jobs. Prior to this bill being signed, Florida deepwater seaports solely benefitted from Development of Regional Impact exemptions within their physical boundaries. |
