New legislation signed by Texas Governor Rick Perry will permanently allow overweight freight to be transported between the Port of Brownsville and Mexico by truck. The main cargo being transferred through this corridor is break bulk steel. This new legislation has been signed because without it, two trucks would need to be used for every one oversized load of break bulk steel. If the legislation was not signed, experts believed that shippers would begin moving away from the Port of Brownsville in favor of Mexican ports. |
