| Description |
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and a national transportation research group named The Road Information Program (TRIP) have collaborated to produce a new analysis of federal data entitled Rough Roads Ahead. This report compares the physical condition of major and urban roads. This comparison allowed the team to find that nearly 51 percent of major roads are in good condition while only 36 percent of roads in urban areas are in similar condition. The cost of poor road conditions is passed along to the motorists, and the report found that the average driver pays an extra $335 yearly caused by poor road conditions. Urban drivers are paying $746 yearly for poor road conditions, more then double of that the average driver pays. The report urges immediate action to prevent further damage to the nation's roads. |
