In order to make informed decisions regarding freight movement, an external consultant has prepared the National Freight Demands Study for the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Economic Development, and Land Transport New Zealand. This study includes information on: current and estimated future volumes and distribution of import, export, and domestic freight in New Zealand, significant modal, national, regional, and industry trends, and any imbalance of directional freight flows. Both the New Zealand government and freight sector expect to use this study as a significant resource with the planning and development of New Zealand's transportation network. |
