  • Considerations for High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane to High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lane Conversions Guidebook Now Available - The intent of this study is to explore the planning, design, and ongoing operation and maintenance of HOT facilities and to provide lessons learned and applicable technical guidance that will assist the state and local transportation planners and designers in determining the conditions where HOV conversion to HOT lanes is feasible. The Considerations for HOV Lane to HOT Lane Conversions Guidebook provides a summary of the best practices and lessons learned from those HOT facilities currently in operation. - June 30, 2009
  • Federal-Aid Highway Program Guidance on High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes - On August 12, the Office of Transportation Management issued the "Federal-Aid Highway Program Guidance on High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes," which supersedes the previous version published on March 28, 2001. The updated program guidance clarifies some operational issues and explains requirements set forth in the Federal statute. The purpose of this document is to provide information useful to States as they plan, design, operate, and manage HOV facilities. This document also presents examples of how various metropolitan areas have approached the implementation of High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes.
