Description of Figure 8-9: Mainline Meter on I-80, Oakland, CA

This drawing shows a horizontal highway oriented east-west. At the eastern end of the highway, three lines representing highways are shown, with symbols for I-80, I-580, and I-880, merging to form one highway that proceeds west to San Francisco.

Just past the point where the three highway merge, an intersecting roadway is shown labeled West Grand. West of this point, a diamond-shaped area is shown on the highway, with a vertical bar labeled Toll Booths.

West of the toll booth, two symbols of ramp meter signals are shown on either side of the diamond-shaped area, pointing east and joined by a vertical bar. This assembly is labeled Metering Signal Bridge. The highway continues west of this area.
